(More customer reviews)There's not much to this book as a "coffee table" book. There is only one photo per two pages and no text accompaning the photos. What text there is is limited to a couple pages at both the beginning and the end of the book. The text at the beginning is by the author and is an abbreviated history of the flight attendant and how it relates to the airline stewardesses he studied. The text at the back is almost a criticism of the work. No where in the book is the answer to the most urgent question raised by this book: Why do the Tiger Airways flight attendants have the Visa logo embroidered on their blouses?

Flying the friendly skies, Brian Finke began photographing flight attendantsas he crisscrossed the country on Delta, JetBlue, Hawaiian, Hooters Air,Southwest, and Song airlines, before going abroad on Air France, Qantas, andBritish Airways. In London, he visited a flight attendant school, completewith emergency rafts and billowing smoke. Continuing east, Finke traveledAir Asia, Thai, Tiger, ANA, Japan, and Cathay Pacific. For the grand finaleof his two-year trip, Finke traveled the illustrious Icelandair. The result is Flight Attendants, a vibrant document of those adventuroussouls who choose to work at 40,000 feet. Shot before, during, and aftertrips, at school and at home, Finke's photographs capture the allure of thishigh-flying profession alongside the more quiet moments of the attendants'daily lives. As in his previous collection of cheerleaders and footballplayers, 2-4-6-8, Finke is drawn to the distinctive dynamics of teamformation, focusing on uniformed individuals executing practicedactionswhether on the playing field or in the air. With an eye for theiconic as well as the absurd, Finke seamlessly blends the glamorous withthe casual, offering a memorable look at the men and women of air travel.
