Susan is a very talented writer who writes from her heart, her gut and from her brilliance. Her descriptions alone are worth the purchase!
This marvelous story will make you cry real tears, laugh out loud (I did, even in public), and your life will be enriched with Susan's down to earth insight. This courageous heartfelt story is unique, but you will also find it to be your own. It will lift you up and you will be soaring in your own skies! And you will agree with Susan that hope is neither elusive nor imaginary.

Flights of Angels: My Life with the Angels of Light Review

(More customer reviews)I was an 'Angel of Light' from 1973 and I love this book. It is beautiful. It is honest. And it is real. It also expresses
the group's belief in peace and art and the spirit of free theater.
Adrian praises geniuses and the Light but shows the ugly Dark side too. He had to. If not, this would be a coverup
but he is fair about a scene that only a few people ever saw from the inside. I was one. And he was too. After 1974,
he was one of the big stars and a tremendous positive offstage influence offstage.
San Francisco was the world capital of Gay Revolution in the 1970s and the 'Angels' were shamans. As a performer
and scriptwriter, Adrian helped the group out of anarchy and helped channel our greatest triumphs that were political,
gutsy, funny, transforming and beautiful. All done in a spirit of love and celebration.

The era comes alive as Adrian also shares his poems for the first time since the Seventies. They are as wonderful
as his other writing. If anyone wants to know the inside story about the art vanguard in San Francisco before AIDS
they should read this book. I salute it. And I'm as proud to be in it as I was to be an Angel of Light.

The Angels of Light were more than a queer performance troupe in the 1970s; growing out of the equally legendary Cockettes in San Francisco, the Angels were a way of life, putting on trashy, fantastical drag fairy tales in a city and an era that was in the blissful throes of early gay liberation. Adrian Brooks was a charter member of the Angels and the author of most of their shows. In this vivid memoir, San Francisco in the 1970s comes to life, as Brooks recounts amazing stories from behind closed doors. He also describes his early years as a Pennsylvania youth whose life is transformed working with Martin Luther King, then subsequently cavorting in Andy Warhol\'s world in Manhattan, before heading west, where the Angels made perfect, beautiful sense of the world. Flight Explorer, Volume One Review

(More customer reviews)"Flight Explorer" is a comic anthology edited by Kazu Kibuishi, an offspring of the main "Flight" series he has been editing for a while. "Explorer" is expressly targeted to children; like the other "Flight" books, the contributors come primarily from an art background. Each handles both the writing and art for their stories.
Being a children's anthology, the stories are short and simple. The artwork is beautiful and varied. Some of the stories work on an all-ages (kids and adults) level - Kazu Kibuishi and Kean Soo in particular are great as always, and I actually prefer Johane Matte's piece here to her contributions to the main anthologies - but some are strictly kids stuff. Highly recommended for children; adults, if you liked the returning contributors from the main "Flight" series you'll like them here.

Flight Volume Six (Flight Graphic Novels) Review

Flight is always a pleasure to read. Storyboard and advertising artists rarely have the opporutnity to display their sequential storytelling talents in print.
Volume Six is not the best collection of tales, and as any anthology goes, good will outweigh the bad. The 'bad' this time around is a couple of tales that really seem too long and from my pov, it is Walter and The Saga of Rex. Walter travels aimlessly on, and Rex is probably four or five pages toolong.
However, there are some jewels here. Cooking Duel is spectacular. Who knew that QUiche could be exciting? The Exceedingly Mundane Life of Kenneth Shui is a riot. Ninja school? Career opporutnity? Gotta love the slash fest to determine the janitor. Dead At Noon is a non conventional look at High Noon with a broken clock. Remind me not to look for dead bunnies too. I am surprised at the parablistic nature of the story. It truly resembles the scripture that describes the body of Christ.
Look for all six volumes of this great series. Where do we sign up?

The pilot and the copilot are up in the cockpit checking out their instruments while the children peer out the airplane windows. A little wide-eyed girl clutches her smiling teddy and looks at the wing flaps as they open and close. "The rudder's moving free and clear / so that Captain Bright can steer. / `Looks like we are good to go,' / the captain tells Copilot Snow." As the propellers begin to whir, the lady from the ground crew steps up to guide the plane into position. WHIRRRRR!
"Cleared for takeoff" and off it speeds down the runway and up, up, up into the sky. Captain Bright and Copilot Snow are hard at work in the cockpit. She spots a puffy storm cloud ahead and points it out to him. "Uh-oh! Storm clouds up ahead! / The radar screen is flashing red! / Lightning, wind, and driving rain / make it hard to fly the plane!" The lightning begins to flash as the storm starts to roll across the sky. Can they make it to their destination or will they have to turn the plane around?
This is a marvelous little lift-the-flap book that any plane lover will go wild over. Mind you, this is not your average board book. Most board books are meant for tiny hands, but this little aeronautic adventure book, which measures a full 8" x 10" when fully opened, can be spread across a lap for a shared reading experience. The book itself is quite sturdy and what you will find behind the flaps will amaze you. For example, when the plane is shown racing down the runway, you can flip the flap and you can see it rising in the sky. The rhyming sequence is perfect and the slightly retro artwork is simply adorable. This is a going on a trip, getting ready to go to bed, a story time, or any time book that you're going to love!
